Bridging Science & Spirit: New Insights from 1,000 Remote Spirit Release Cases

Oct 18, 2025
Dr Terence Palmer PhD

The Research Project

Between 2011 and 2021, Dr Terence Palmer PhD collaborated with SRA co-founder Andy Porter and a select group of spiritual mediums, including SRA co-founder Jonno Webster, to document over 1,000 live client cases using the Remote Spirit Release (RSR) protocol. Their work recorded reported shifts in energetic fields, consciousness and symptoms following structured spirit clearing sessions.

The Research Objective

Though spirit release practitioners (often called Spiritists) have long applied methods such as dis-obsession to cases of mental illness, including individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia, this approach had never been subjected to rigorous empirical testing. The aim of this project was to study, for the first time in a structured way, the RSR technique as a way of supporting mental and emotional wellbeing.

How the Pilot Began

In 2018, the pilot phase was initiated in response to requests from families whose loved ones were diagnosed with psychosis and who felt conventional medical or psychiatric treatment was not enough on its own. In many of these cases, Dr Palmer’s team reported that clients appeared to be influenced by earthbound spirits of the deceased who had attached themselves to vulnerable hosts. In sessions where those attachments were released, practitioners reported a reduction in auditory hallucinations and other symptoms for some clients.

Key Findings: Patterns of Energetic Imbalance

Global Reach & Demographics

  • North America (48%) and the UK (31%) made up nearly 80% of the cases. Europe, Asia and Australasia represented smaller yet growing proportions.
  • The majority of participants were aged 31 to 60, a stage often associated with deeper spiritual seeking and self reflection.

Causes of Energetic Interference

Among the primary causes identified by practitioners were: childhood trauma (about 17%), curse or black magic (about 16%), chemical influences (about 10%), negative emotions, spirit sensitivity and past life issues (6 to 7% each). These observations point to the interconnectedness of psychological, emotional and energetic factors.

Grounding, Sovereignty & the Inner Etheric

  • Only 10% of clients demonstrated full, stable grounding. 90% showed partial or absent grounding.
  • Just 28% of cases showed full energetic sovereignty, leaving 72% vulnerable to external interference.
  • 85% of cases were reported to involve one or more earthbound spirit attachments.

What This Means for Healing & Practice

The observations suggest that for many individuals seeking spirit release support:

  1. Energetic clearing should be paired with psychological and therapeutic work.
  2. Grounding and sovereignty restoration are not optional, they are foundational.
  3. The global presence of RSR work points to the need for culturally and linguistically sensitive practitioner training.

Dr Palmer’s view

Dr Palmer believed spirit release could play an important part alongside conventional care, particularly for clients where other approaches had not fully helped.

Why This Research Matters

This body of work offers a bridge between ancient wisdom, mediumistic practice and modern consciousness science. For therapists, healers and mental health professionals, it offers a starting point to explore the subtle dimension of healing: the part of human suffering that is energetic, consciousness based, and often unseen.
